Denver Business Journal: Colorado startup gets 1st place and $250,000 at national competition

Denver startup QuickZip Sheet Company on Friday received a $250,000 cash price and was named the national winner of the 2016 Capital Championship tournament.

The startup was recently featured in the Denver Business Journal's Elevator Pitch series, a series that gives local entrepreneurs and small businesses the opportunity to pitch their company in 60 seconds, about the time it takes for the elevator at the 1801 California Street tower to travel from the lobby to floor 53.

QuickZip manufacturers a two-piece, fitted bed sheet with a zipper that the startup says can be changed out quickly and fitted onto a mattress more easily.

The Capital Championship, which took place June 8-10 in Los Angeles, is a nationwide entrepreneur competition where startups pitch their company to venture capitalists and investors and participate in events where they talked business strategy with mentors.

"I cannot believe this is real,” said QuickZip Founder and CEO Elizabeth Sopher. "We can now reach so many more customers than we could before and this is just the beginning!"

“This is a well-deserved win for QuickZip as they faced incredible competition from numerous startup companies across the country,” said David Brey, executive director of Capital Championship. “We saw tremendous presentations throughout the tournament and are thrilled for QuickZip. We appreciate the work they put into their company and hope this new cash infusion and mentorship helps move them to the next level, continuing the company’s trajectory to success."

GetOutfitted, a Colorado Springs-based startup that creates kids sleeping bags and other ski gear, took third in the competition. Chicago-based startup Parknav, the creator of an app that helps people find real-time on-street parking and parking garages in the busy city, took second.
