Colorado-based startup takes home $250,000 grand prize
 FORT COLLINS, Colo. --(BUSINESS WIRE)
The Capital Championship, a nationwide entrepreneur competition, announced today it awarded the $250,000 cash prize sponsored by OtterBox to Denver-based QuickZip Sheet Company as the national winner of the 2016 Capital Championship tournament.
“This is a well deserved win for QuickZip as they faced incredible competition from numerous startup companies across the country,” said David Brey, executive director of Capital Championship. “We saw tremendous presentations throughout the tournament and are thrilled for QuickZip. We appreciate the work they put into their company and hope this new cash infusion and mentorship helps move them to the next level, continuing the company’s trajectory to success.”
The QuickZip Sheet Company has reinvented the fitted sheet to make it comfortable, quick to change, easy to fold and secure on the mattress. QuickZip is a patented two-piece fitted sheet with a base that stays on the mattress and a sheet that zips off and on in seconds. The company started with crib sheets and is now available for all beds.
“I cannot believe this is real,” said Elizabeth Sopher, Founder and CEO of QuickZip. “We can now reach so many more customers than we could before and this is just the beginning!”
Placing second in the overall tournament was Chicago-based Parknav and GetOutfitted, based in Colorado Springs, finished third.
The Capital Championship national event unfolded live, onstage, June 8-10 in Los Angeles. All finalists also participated in the RECESS Field Trip event where they had the opportunity to talk business strategy with mentors and pitch to venture capitalists and investors. The 2016 tournament kicked off roughly two months ago with the goal of strengthening the startup community by offering exposure to participants as well as expanded networking and mentorship.
“OtterBox is built on innovation, and we’re proud to support these entrepreneurs on their path to success,” said OtterBox and Blue Ocean Enterprises, Inc. CEO Jim Parke. “The Capital Championship is about more than just the prize. It’s also about building a community of innovators and mentors to bring cutting-edge concepts to life.”
